The Ontario Library has a wide selection of local research materials such as newspapers, phone directories, yearbooks and magazines all for public use and research. The Library no longer allows bound newspapers to be placed in the photo copier. This damages the binding and the paper itself. We recommend the use of a digital camera. You may bring your own or library staff will make copies for you. Each page is .20 cents. All copies are in black and white. Request these items at the front desk. We are currently unable to view issues of newspapers archived on micro-film. The Micro-film reader is out of order and unavailable for use.

The Library staff is able to do limited research to find obituaries and articles for the public. Research fee is $5.00 and includes the first set of copies. Please send check (or money order), name of person (or article information), any dates you may have and your contact information to the library. Historical Sections and Reference Materials

The Historical section is by the large east facing windows. There is a reading/study area with tables for patron use. This is also where the library's current magazines are housed. The Library houses a large collection of local nonfiction historical books and reference materials numbering over one thousand (1000) volumes. Many of these volumes may be checked out; others must be used only at the library.

The Ontario Community Library also houses the Malheur County Historical Society Book Collection. This collection is in kept locked cabinets and patrons interested in viewing these materials must inquire at the front desk. Patrons may look at the books within the library only. They do not check out.
